Project Description:

We are conducting semi-analytical and numerical simulations to understand the nature of dark matter and how it interacts via the phenomenon of gravitational lensing.

Research Project Details
Project Duration:
06/2016 to 06/2017
Project Significance:
We are studying the complex caustic patterns and critical light curves that are produced as a result of various distributions of dark matter. This is a key problem in science currently, since dark matter comprises the majority of matter in our Universe. Understanding what dark matter is, and how it interacts, will provide great insight into the underpinnings of our Universe. To carry out at higher capacity and better resolution, the resources at HKU HPC will be of great use, in terms of parallel computation power and memory quantity.
Results Achieved:
Currently, we have observed new effects produced by dark matter distributions. To study this in further detail and quantify it, we will be using the resources at HKU HPC.
