Researcher:
Dr Philip L Y Chan, Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Systems
Project Title:

Computation of Renewal Functions

Project Description:

This project involves computation of renewal functions for renewal processes.  Because of the slow rate of convergence of the infinite series involved, computation load will be high in order to achieve the necessary precision of computation.  Several years ago, computation was successfully carried out using SP2 at the Computer Centre of The University of Hong Kong.

Project Duration:
3 months
Project Significance:

Reliability planning engineers can use the results obtained in this project for maintenance planning of engineering systems.

Results Achieved:

A table of renewal function for Weibull random variable is obtained.

One paper was published from this project:

Chan, L.Y., Mui, L.M., Woo, C.M. (1997), Reliability analysis and maintenance policy of radiators for a large fleet of buses, Quality and Reliability Engineering International, 12, 117-126.

Remarks on the Use of High Performance Computing Cluster:

Significant technical support on parallel Fortran programming was provided from HPC Cluster.
