Vibration of a Girder Bridge under a Moving Vehicle

wilcmh - Posted on 15 September 2017

Project Description:

Objectives of this project include carrying out experimental and theoretical investigations into the vibration of a girder bridge under a moving vehicle and investigating if the vibration data obtained can be used to assess the structural health of the girder bridge.

This project is of computational, experimental and analytical nature. Mathematical program will be written using MATLAB to simulate the vibrations of the bridge and effects of different parameters are studied.

Research Project Details
Project Duration:
09/2017 to 06/2018
Project Significance:
This research project is useful in analyzing vibration data obtained for a bridge and to determine its structural health effectively. This improves current methods in determining structural health of a bridge by providing a more convenient detection and analysis method.
Results Achieved:
Current progress is still in the preliminary stage. Several papers have been studied and the programs were planned with reference to the knowledge obtained from the papers.
Remarks:
HPC is useful, first, to provide access to MATLAB which plays an important part in my Final Year Project. It is required to create simulation programs through the use of MATLAB software and for analysis. Second, HPC can provide high computation power to provide convenient working environment to boost the progress of my project.
